Jentel awards residencies to artists, writers, and composers who are focused and serious about their intent, who may have proven themselves by publication, exhibition or performance or who may not necessarily be well advanced in their work, but who have developed a personal vision or voice. The program welcomes visual artists in all media and writers in fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry and composers in all genres of music.
Anyone over 25 years of age who is a citizen of the United States is eligible to apply.
Applicants enrolled full-time (9 hours or more) in a degree program at the time of proposed residency are ineligible for residency. Additionally, those in post-doc fellowships are welcome to apply.
-
The Jentel Artist Residency is located 20 miles southeast of Sheridan, WY (population nearing 20,000), nestled in the foothills of the Bighorn Mountains.
Each resident is provided with living accommodations that include a private room and a shared common living area with kitchen and a separate studio space. [See Facilities Tour.]
Residents need to bring their own materials and laptops.
-
Each resident receives a $300 stipend distributed in weekly increments to offset living and meal preparation expenses during the residency.
-
Application fee is $30
A $100 reservation deposit is due within two weeks of notification of the residency award and confirms the residency. If an applicant cancels their residency reservation less than two months before it starts, the deposit is non-refundable.
Aside from the application fee, no additional charges are applied.
-
Jentel’s review panelists are visual art, literary, and music professionals who meet twice a year to review and rate applications. Panelists are routinely rotated.
Through our partnership programs, a limited number of artists are invited to Jentel without an application submission.
Jentel welcomes the participation of artists from all backgrounds and does not discriminate with regard to age, race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, marital status, or nation of origin in its admission policies.
